Why packs instead of a prompt box

A prompt box makes you responsible for knowing how the work should be done. A job knows already. It carries the instructions, the standards, and the shape of what it hands back, so you supply the thing only you know: what you actually want.

What a job asks you for

Open a job and you get a launch sheet built from that job’s contract. It shows exactly what the job needs, no more:

• A task, in words. Almost every job takes one, and it is the most important thing on the sheet.
• Files, when the job works on documents you supply.
• A connector, when the job needs an account you have already set up.
• The agent and model, if you want something other than the default.
• Where it runs, if you have more than one machine.

A job also tells you what it will hand back before you start it: a report, a set of files, a table, a draft.

Reading a Solution’s card

• Capabilities are what it can do, in plain sentences.
• Requirements are what you must have. A Mac, a key, sometimes disk space.
• Connectors show which of them you have already connected and which need setup, so you find out before a job stops halfway.

If a Solution needs a particular kind of box, the first job that needs it builds that box once. The card tells you when that is going to be a large download.

Jobs that start from a sentence

Many jobs can start from something you typed in a chat. If you are talking to a bot and you say something that matches a job it has, it offers a card: run this job, with what you said as the instruction. You tap to confirm. Nothing runs because you mentioned it.
